It is with heavy hearts that we announce Mark passed peacefully at his home on Friday February 13, 2026, and joined his parents Don and Shirley, brother Guy, and best friend Royce in heaven.
Mark, lovingly referred to as ‘Uncle Buck,’ grew up on two family farms in Grafton. He attended Grafton Public School and CCI East before joining the Sheet Metal Union and working for Stark Mechanical. Mark suffered his first of many hip replacements at twenty years of age, which contributed to an early retirement. At this time his role of Uncle Buck truly evolved and he became keeper of all family pets.
Uncle Buck was always ready for the next adventure and had a way of writing them into his sometimes unbelievable but always memorable stories. He and his tales had the ability to make anyone laugh, regardless of circumstance or environment. Mark was intentional and spiritual. His premonitions were frequent and often on the mark.
Mark loved his family, friends, and some of the most vulnerable in our community. He was the happiest when helping others, and will always be remembered for his compassion, whether it be volunteering with Dave Alexander at the Cobourg Salvation Army, leading Saturday night AA groups, or helping a neighbour. Mark would show up to the best of his abilities.
Uncle Buck, thank you for always being the life of the party, living life on your own terms, and making those around you feel seen.
Mark is predeceased by his parents Don and Shirley McQuaig, brother Guy McQuaig, and his very best friend Royce. He is lovingly remembered by sister’s Chere (Scott Campbell), Vicki (Terry Irwin), and sister-in-law Darlene Gabovic. He will be greatly missed by Charrissa (Mike), Jeremy (Kara), Darcy, Jamie (Sarah), Tyler (Chantal), Caeleb, Toia (Geoff), Sophie, and Chanel. Uncle Buck was made ‘Great’ by Mcquaig, Max, Morgan, Keilley, Dawson, Ella, George, Ruby, Lincoln, Miller and Wrenly.
Forever thankful for his chosen brothers Ed Kowalczyk, Charlie Black, and Derek Redick.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Mark are asked to make a donation to the Cobourg Salvation Army.
The family invites friends to celebrate Mark’s life on Sunday, March 22nd, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 580 Grafton from 11:00am-2:00pm.
Nieces and Nephews will share memories at 12:00pm.
