January 3, 1945 - February 18, 2026

On Wednesday February 18th, 2026, Helen Steele, surrounded by love, peacefully passed away. Predeceased by her mother Mary, father Bert and brothers Berkley and Lanny. She leaves a legacy of love with her family. Her partner of 51 years, Alex, her children Kelley, Cory (Natalie) and Stacey. Her grandchildren Brooks, Ryan, Brianna, Charlotte and Eric. Her great-grandchildren Aaliyah, Jaylen and his brother David will treasure their memories of Nan forever. Brother-in-law Alf and sister-in-law Red, along with her nieces and nephews were very dear to her.
Helen loved life to the fullest. Her friendships, some over 70 years, are a testament to those who loved her. Whether her card games, parties, or at the pool, Helen was always a willing participant. Helen’s life achievements are extraordinary and will be shared at her Celebration of Life in the spring.
We want to express our thanks to Dr. Mule and the exceptional staff at Ed’s House. Your incredible kindness gave Helen such comfort. Dennis, you are a one of a kind. Helen was, as we are, touched by your endless kindness. And of course, the butter tarts! Thank you.
In Lieu of flowers, Helen requested donations to her choices of charities which are:

Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind
Cobourg Legion Branch 133

Teresa Winkler - February 20, 2026

She is my heroine, my mother figure and my dear friend.Any time or conversation spent with Helen over the past 48 years has been nothing short of pure radiance. There is no describing her influence. In my experience her blindness was not an obstacle instead it was a force to be reckoned with. As young saucy teenagers Kelley and I thought we could get away with many things and as it turned out we were very wrong. Helen's sharp sense was beyond admirable as was her wit and every day existence. She was interested and invested in everyone she knew. My heart soars as a picture her reunited with her beloved seeing eye dog "Doobie". Much love to all who knew her. Prayers and so much love to her beloved partner Alex,Kelley and beautiful family.
