Kaitlin Bailey Newton

March 22, 1988 - January 25, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Kaitlin Bailey Newton of Port Hope on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the age of 37.
Kaitlin, known to her friends as “Newt,” lived a life full of love, loyalty, courage, and joy. Born on March 22, 1988 to Jim and Donna Newton, she ensured her parents would never again have a dull moment. They faithfully watched almost every one of her countless sports games and matches, met her remarkably large group of friends, and shared in her fun, enjoy-the-good-times nature.
Newt’s greatest joy in life was her daughters, Quinn (age 8) and Maci (age 7 months). Newt was the epitome of a loving and selfless mother, always making sure her daughters felt treasured and safe while also instilling in them her strength, compassion, and unwavering love. Her last act of motherhood and life was ensuring her daughters were safe and unharmed.
Newt’s fierce loyalty extended to all those fortunate enough to know her. She was truly a force of nature - fearless and deeply devoted to those she loved. Her contagious laugh, competitive spirit, and infectiously happy personality ensured every room, rink, pitch, and field was brighter with her presence.
An accomplished athlete, Newt was a fierce hockey defenseman and two-time provincial girls’ hockey champion who continued to play competitively into adulthood. On the rugby pitch, her presence was always felt by both opponents and teammates alike. Newt went on to coach the women’s rugby team at Fleming College, leading the team to back-to-back OCAA provincial championships. Newt also loved playing women’s and co-ed softball, and even during “fun” ball tournaments, Newt’s competitive nature shone and she was most happy winning.

But her greatest win was meeting the love of her life - a wonderful father to Maci and steady caring presence to Quinn - Travis Nelson.
She graduated from Trent University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology while captaining the women’s rugby team. Her teammates remember her leadership on and off the field, and she was always fully willing to tap in for chug-offs to keep morale rising.

Newt later graduated from Fleming College with an Ontario College Graduate certificate in Therapeutic Recreation. She was later employed with Centennial Place Long-Term Care Home. She was passionate about helping others, finding great satisfaction and gratification in her work of assisting the residents. She made the difficult decision to leave Centennial Place to pursue a career with Hydro One, where she made many new friends with her amazing colleagues.

Newt was predeceased by her father and biggest fan, Jim. She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Donna; her brother, Kurt (Mattie Condie) Newton; her partner, Travis Nelson; and her cherished daughters, Quinn and Maci.
She was the treasured granddaughter of the late Arthur and Marjorie Bailey, and the late Ron and Gwen Newton. She will also be deeply missed by her extended family, including her grandmother-in-law, Gayl Nelson (the late Ken Nelson); her parents-in-law, Lori Hill and Mark (Vickie) Nelson; and her sisters-in-law, Kyla and Desiree Nelson.

A celebration of her life will be held on February 28, 2026, from 1pm to 7pm, at the Best Western Hotel in Cobourg, ON.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Kaitlin’s memory are invited to support her daughters through the GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/92f668d6c.

Donna,Travis,Kurt and family Words cannot express the sadness we felt when we heard the devastating news of Newts passing. Our hearts are broken as is anyones who knew Kaitlyn. I am so happy I had the opportunity to meet Newt thru hockey. I always enjoyed being around her, watching her with our young Mackenzie on the bus trips. Teaching her dance moves and introducing her to Eminem and other artist/ music lol Always including her in pregame shenanigans and treating her like a little sister. I always admired her for doing this. I never saw Newt in her role as mom but I know she was a good one. R.I.P. Newt. You will never be forgotten. Sending all our love to Donna,Kurt, Travis ,Quinn,Maci and family Jeff,Judi and family
