Robert Newman

May 6, 1938 - December 23, 2025

Died peacefully December 23, 2025 in his 87th year. Survived by his lovely wife of 62 years, Carol, his 4 children Tim (Laura), Sam, Becky (Mark) and Peter (Lauren), also 4 grandchildren Holly (Josh), Nick (Elena), Adam and Katie, and 2 great grandchildren Mona and Coralyn. Bob was an avid painter, model train enthusiast, which he shared with his children, and loved books and classical music. Bob spent the first 20 years of married life working as a teletimer for the horses at Woodbine racetrack. Then he and his wife Carol packed up house and kids in Buttonville to move to Cobourg to start a new dream; opening a greenhouse business. They named it Car – Bob Greenhouse (Carol and Bob). As the years went on it grew and grew. In 1994 their son-in-law came on board to help, and they expanded it again. Then in 1998, Bob had a near fatal heart attack and could no longer work in the greenhouse. This wasn’t an ending, it was a new beginning. Bob and Carol travelled the world on many cruises; visiting all kinds of places like China, Europe, Greenland and South America. When the travelling came to a close, Bob enjoyed walking at Lucas Point Park with his faithful companion Trigger at his side, and his dear friend Lois with her companion Pippa. So now as this chapter closes, proud of his legacy, he can move on to another new adventure. Safe travels Bob.

MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE / DONATIONS

Rick & Nancy Arthur - January 10, 2026

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Becky, Mark, Carol and family at this most difficult time.

Lois Burnett - January 10, 2026

Bob and I walked the paths at Lucas Point almost every morning for the last dozen years or so accompanied by Trigger and Pippa. He kept me entertained with his many stories. He frequently mentioned what a wonderful life he had and was so proud of his family. I admired his tenacity and courage continuing to do the walk in spite of some serious health issues including low vision. The Lucas Point regulars—man and beast will all miss Bob but I’m sure he will walk with us in spirit. Sincere condolences to you all.

Tony and Roxanne Hodge - January 10, 2026

Extending our sincere sympathies to Carol and family on Bob's passing. We fondly remember early-morning dogwalks at Lucas Point Park and the many chats we had with Bob. He always had good stories to share! All the dogs loved him, and we think of him every day as we walk by "Bob's bench".
