It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Denis Mercier, age 61, who left us peacefully on November 30th after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his three main girls.
Loving husband and best friend to Teresa (nee Veltri) for over 40 years. Cherished and devoted father to Meagan (Jason) King & Miranda (Kyle) Brown. Adored Poppa to his four beautiful granddaughters Paisley, Tessa, Hallie and Mya.
Loving Son of Diana Lapointe (nee Mercier) and stepson of Lionel Lapointe. Dear brother of Carole Mercier. Predeceased and welcoming him with open arms is his late father Andre, brother Raymond and in-laws Ron and Ruby Veltri. Denis will always be remembered by his sister-in-law Sandra Comaniuk (Dave), brothers-in-laws, Ron “Buck” Veltri (Colleen), and Paul Veltri (Vicki) and stepsiblings.
Denis is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Denis had a heart of gold and would light up a room with his smile. He would give you the shirt off his back and was always there to lend a helping hand; always putting others before himself. Denis loved his family, working hard his whole life to make sure they were cared for. Denis retired from General Motors putting in over 30 years of service and enjoyed his 11 years of retirement.
Denis took pride in everything he did and owned.
Everything had a place in his garage, and he could tell you exactly where to find it. His garage door was always open, and company was always welcome.
Denis had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, camping, riding his Harley and side-by- side, singing and playing guitar around the campfire and spending time with his family and friends.
There is a hole in our hearts that will never heal but knowing you are finally at peace gives us all strength.
In keeping with Denis’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date which will be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.
Sending my deepest condolences 💐 to Teresa, Meagan, Miranda, Aunt Diane, Carole, and all of Denis’s beautiful granddaughters and families. Denis may have been a rebel in his younger years, but he grew into one of the biggest softies—you’d hardly believe he was the same guy! I’m sure Teresa deserves much of the credit for that. To me, he was always kind-hearted, and I loved listening to him sing and play guitar, especially when he was surrounded by our cousins. I’ll never forget when he called me on my 40th birthday to apologize for not being able to come. And when my 50th birthday arrived, he and Teresa made the trip to Niagara. I was truly touched and so grateful to have them both there to celebrate with us. We shared so many wonderful and fun times with Denis. He was a very special cousin, and I can still hear his infectious laugh and see his permanent smile. He was loved by so many and will be deeply missed. Rest peacefully, Denis. My Deepest Condolences to You Teresa and Your Family. I can remember that first time I had met him at GM. We talked alot about Turkey hunting. Dennis was considered a dear friend to Tracey and I right from the first day I showed up in the old blue truck, threw the block of wood under the tire to hold her, and walked thru the garage door. We shared our first (of many) beers that day and it seems so long ago. And yes, the Harley trip to NL that year was the trip of a lifetime buddy. Thanks for all the good times and memories.

We've been so lucky to live in an area with such amazing neighbours and Dennis was definitely one of them. Never hesitating to help us out or lend a tool but never without a giant smile. The garage drink visits were always a blast and a guaranteed laugh. Rest easy Dennis, you will be missed xoxo 💕
