Not a long life, but longer than many. Not a healthy life, but healthier
than many. Not a quick passing, but, gratefully, quicker than many. Not
a perfect life, but better than many. Not a happy life, but she endured - quietly. Friends for 55 years, partners for 30, Mrs. Mulvey for the last
eight:
Obits are an attempt to summarize a person’s life with a few words. Kind words, achievements, personal accomplishments, acts of kindness and generosity, self-sacrifice, to name a few. October 19 - as I struggle to write an obituary, we believed we had time to write together, all the good things that can be said, and should be said, would only touch the surface
of who she was. Ten thousand words would not be enough. Honest to a
fault. She always put other people first. Never complained, never blamed others, always looked for the good in a person. She was always positive and never had a bad word to say about anyone. That was only part of who she was. To many people she was a respected professional, to others she was a solid, reliable, dependable friend. A few betrayed her trust and generosity, to which a lesser person would react but she would not engage, she simply held her head high and walked away. In my eyes she was, and always will be, the best of the best. - 68 years in 172 words - short and sweet, just like Raine, my love.
Raine faced her last days as she lived her life, with courage and stoicism. She has left this world to begin her next adventure, leaving behind endless good memories and smiles for everybody that ever knew her.
My appreciation and thanks to Jim Berg, who added so much to her life for over 25 years. Very few people look forward to going to work, Raine loved the work, the people, the daily challenges, and strived for perfection.
Happiness is what and where you find it: she stayed on for many years after she could have retired, not for a paycheck but personal gratitude.
Sincere thanks to Northumberland Hills Hospital and the Palliative Care Team for their care and compassion in Raine's final days. Please consider a donation to Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
