It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Keith Bernard Rynax, who left this world peacefully at his home in Colborne, Ontario, on Saturday, November 8th, 2025 … just one day after his 69th birthday, and only after following his beloved wife Gail’s strict instructions to stick around for the big day.
Born on November 7, 1956, in Brampton, Keith’s life was defined by his love of family, his country, classic cars, and of course, his legendary hair, which remained the envy of many until his final days.
Keith’s greatest joy in life was his family, especially Gail, his wife and best friend of 49 incredible years. Their love story began at the tender age of 12. After meeting Gail, Keith raced home and declared to his mother that he had met the girl he was going to marry. He kept that promise for a lifetime. Together, Keith and Gail built a home full of love and laughter, truly enduring through good times and bad, in sickness and in health, always standing side by side with unwavering devotion and strength. During his year-long illness, Gail cared for him with the same love, grace, and fierce dedication that had carried them through their life together, remaining by his side with endless compassion until his final moments.
Keith will be deeply missed by his children, Michelle and Kristen (Brendan), and his grandchildren, Greer (Justin), Brook-Lynn, and Grayson, who will forever carry his love, humour, and spirit in their hearts. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister Sylvia (Terry), his nieces and nephews, and a circle of friends who were like family to him, especially his best friend Steve Crozier, Bob Culetta and Cindy Templeton, who were a tremendous source of love and support throughout this journey.
Keith is predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Phyllis (née Burgess), and his sisters Deltha Marlene and Shirley, who we know welcomed him home with open arms.
He had a big heart, even though he sometimes had a hard time showing it, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. He was the one who showed up when you needed a hand, offered wise and thoughtful advice when you needed guidance, cracked a joke when you needed a laugh, and gave you a hug when words just weren’t enough. His legacy is one of love, pure and unwavering, and that love will live on in all who were lucky enough to know him.
A celebration of Keith’s life will be held at a later date, when family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories of the man who meant so much to so many.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff, nurses, personal support workers, and doctors at Northumberland Hills Hospital and Lakeridge Health Oshawa for their compassionate care. We also sincerely thank the Canadian Cancer Society, Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice, and MacCoubrey Funeral Home for their support and comfort during this difficult time. Your dedication and kindness have meant so much to our family.
We will miss him beyond measure, and though his journey has ended, we take comfort in knowing he has been reunited with loved ones, who he has been waiting a very long time to see.
Until we meet again, Keith/Dad/Grandpa, thank you for the love, the laughter, and for staying just long enough to make sure Gail got her wish.
You are already missed my friend. RIP
Gail, family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss and may all the happy memories of Keith stay with you always. I too will cherish the wonderful memories of him. xx
Such a lovely Obituary honouring the love and memories of Keith and the family. My deepest sympathy to the family with the lost of Keith who I also called Dad. Growing up, the Rynax house was my second home and my safe place where I have fond memories of playing with Michelle and Kristen, staying for dinner and even spending some of my summers at their house. Dad I will miss our talks on politics, military and other current events on the news. Everytime I watch Star Trek I will think of you. Your love and memory will live on with your family and friends. Rest well and watch over us. Thank you for always welcoming me into your family.
