We are saddened to share that our beloved Patricia Anne Gibson, peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family, passed away on September 14, 2025, at the age of 57 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 29 years, Paul; children: Megan and Gracie; Daughter to Esther Darcy and late John Darcy; Daughter in-law to the late Reuben and Muriel Gibson; Brother, Peter Darcy (Babette); Sister, Theresa Matthews (Brent); as well as a brokenhearted, loving group of numerous relatives, including her nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Patricia always spoke fondly of her childhood, expressing gratitude for the parents who blessed her with such a wonderful upbringing. Patricia grew up with a joy for reading books, listening to records (specifically Bruce Springsteen), which she would steal from her older brother, Peter, snooping for Christmas presents with her older sister, Theresa, and playing outside until dark with her childhood best friend. One of Patricia’s first jobs was working in the bakery and deli at Dominion Supermarket, where she met her beloved husband, Paul. Patricia and Paul dated throughout their post-secondary education, as Patricia attended the University of Ottawa and York University in Toronto, completing a degree in translation (French). Patricia and Paul got married at Holy Redeemer Parish church in Pickering on August 10, 1996, alongside their loving friends and family. After purchasing their first home together in Bowmanville, they later decided to expand their family, welcoming home their first dog and Patricia’s special boy, their mischievous, yellow lab, Timber. In 2001, they welcomed home their firstborn, Megan. Three years later, they moved to Port Hope, where they custom-built their dream home and welcomed their second daughter, Gracie. Patricia started her career working as a French customer service representative for Hallmark cards, later moving into publishing at McGraw-Hill for 15 years, and most recently working for Legal-Aid Ontario. Patricia was talented in many aspects of her life. She loved to write and was very good with her words! In her free time, apart from writing, she loved spending quality time with her family, reading books, swimming in the pool, experimenting with new recipes, and enjoying her morning coffee outside alongside her husband, Paul, and the dogs.
Patricia’s greatest joy and accomplishment were her two daughters, whom she held as her pride and joy. Even with little to spare, she never faltered in caring for her loved ones and making sure others were okay. Patricia was known for her warmth, kindness, and undeniably loving spirit she brought into the world. She was full of empathy and greeted everyone she met with open arms. Patricia personally got to know every nurse who took on her care, granting compliments, sharing stories, telling jokes, and sparking laughter. This perfectly showcases Patricia’s kind and loving spirit. Amidst the challenges life brought her way, she never wavered in her compassion for others. Despite the hard times Patricia endured , she never lost her wit and sense of humour that everyone loved; she made her family laugh with her goofy expressions and silly sayings. She had an amazing sense of humour and a joy for laughter that carried her through life’s toughest moments. Patricia is the embodiment of strength; she was a fighter. A strong force that showed others what can be accomplished with such persistence and determination. Her journey has and will continue to inspire so many people with her courageous, heroic, and selfless ways. Although her life was short, those blessed to know her understand that her existence and the imprint she left on our hearts far exceed the quantity of time she was here.
A celebration of life will be held at one of her favourite spots.
