Doris Susanne Gilbert- Wilkie

December 1, 1963 - September 26, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Doris Susanne Gilbert-Wilkie at Ed’s House Hospice in Cobourg on September 26, 2025. She was in her 62nd year, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Cobourg on December 1, 1963, Doris was the loving daughter of the late Donna Gilbert and was lovingly adopted by the late Mona and Lawrence Wilkie. She was a proud Godmother to Skyler Head (Ryan), and a beloved sister to Glenda Holden (late Bill), and (Bruce) and her brother, Danny Gilbert.
Doris was predeceased by her siblings Lindy Reaburn (late Ken), Al Rodgers (late Irene), Bill Rodgers (late Nancy), and John Rodgers (Joyce). She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her warmth and joyful spirit.
A talented hairdresser, Doris worked at Rose Beauty Salon in Cobourg, where she brought confidence and kindness to everyone she met. Known for her flair and infectious personality, she never passed a mirror without striking a pose and saying, “Gosh darn it, I’m gorgeous.” Doris had a special way of lighting up any room she entered — always with style, laughter, and often a funny nickname for everyone she loved.
Doris had a deep love for cats and a strong connection to her Indigenous heritage. Her spirit animal was the fox, a symbol of her cleverness, compassion, and strength. She had a heart for caregiving and always put others — especially children — first. Whether you were family or friend, Doris had a way of making you feel special and seen.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff and volunteers at Ed’s House for the incredible care and comfort they provided.
Details to a celebration of life will be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris’s memory may be made to Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre Cobourg.

My dear sister: you have filled so much joy and happiness to so many people. The day you were legally adopted, you became my little sister instead of my niece. Taking you to Burnham School every day. Babysitting my kids for me when we got older. Our 3 hour phone calls. I’m so glad I made it back to Ontario to spend time with you. I will always love you and I will keep you in my heart forever. 💔❤️🙏 Rest now my sister
