Thomas Darrel Evans

September 20, 1945 - July 15, 2025

With hearts full of gratitude and love, we celebrate the remarkable life of Tom D. Evans, who passed peacefully on July 15, 2025, at Ed’s House in Cobourg, surrounded by the people who meant the world to him.

Born in Montreal on September 20, 1945, Tom lived a life rich in purpose, passion, and plenty of adventure. He believed in the value of hard work, the importance of laughter, and the magic of being on the water on a sunny day.

Tom was the beloved husband and best friend to Liz, his partner in life and in business for 57 wonderful years. Together, they raised two sons, John and David, whom Tom guided with quiet strength, gentle wisdom, and just the right amount of dad humor. He was also the proud Grampie to Nich, Emily, Bostyn, Anglin, Charlie, and Sadie. Tom loved his sisters Jean and Chris and their families.

Tom began his career in Kitchener with Uniroyal/Goodridge, but his entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him to Peterborough/Lakefield, where he founded Tom Evans Tire and Auto. Never one to sit still for long, he and Liz later launched Boaters World, a marine accessory store that combined his knack for business with his love of life on the water.

Tom was a proud member of the Sales and Ad Club, a skilled and passionate boater, and above all else, a true family man. Whether he was steering a boat into open waters, sharing a laugh with old friends, or hosting a backyard BBQ with grandkids running around, Tom knew how to savor life’s simple joys.

He will be remembered for his quick smile, his deep loyalty, his love for the water, and his unfailing devotion to the people he loved most. He taught us how to work hard, love deeply, and always wave at fellow boaters.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on August 12th between 4pm-7pm at his son Dave’s house in Cobourg (264 Rankin Blvd). This is a drop, in casual celebration. In true Tom fashion, bring your stories, wear something comfortable, and come ready to smile through the tears.

Fair winds and following seas, Tom. You were truly one of a kind.

Even though I haven’t seen or heard from Tom and family in many years I have very fond memories of him when he would come visit in smithtown and hampton nb. I think as a child I had a crush on him of course not really understanding he was my uncle and far too old for me lol. I can still remember his good looks and fun manners always happy and making us happy too. I see he has had a passion for the water I guess he must have influenced me in that area as well because on or near the water is where I am at home. So sorry his life was cut short but the man upstairs must have a better plan for him now, I’m sure him and mom(Chris) will be doing a lot of catching up
