I am deeply saddened by Mrs Rigney’s passing although I am happy she is with her beloved husband in a better place doing the things they love to do. As a childhood friend of Kathleen’s, Mrs Rigney was always a figure of formidable admiration to me, and my respect for her deepened as I got to know her as an adult and as a woman, hearing her phenomenal stories of backpacking through Europe, living abroad in various African countries and navigating the workforce in a time where women had lesser presence. Her pragmatic, calm demeanour was complemented with a witty sense of humour, and I wish I had spent more time hearing her fascinating tales. She was definitely a woman ahead of her time and deserves to be celebrated as such. Rest in peace, dear Mrs Rigney - you will be missed. My deepest condolences to Kathleen, Andrew and Serena. To Jean's family, Over the years since graduating from Victoria College in 1959, a group of us who lived in a house at 147 Bloor St. while students, have kept in touch, not always regularly, but we will all remember Jean as a dear friend with whom we all enjoyed meeting over the years.
