Peacefully, with family by her side, on May 28, 2024, at Extendicare, Port Hope in her 79th year. Beloved wife of Gordon Barton, for 60 years. Loving Mother of Michelle Baxter (Dale), Patrick Barton and Erin Duncan (Derek). Proud, loving Grammy/Nanny of Presley Barton, Leif Barton, Jack Duncan and Benjamin Duncan. Special sister to Jean Klinck (the late, Kenneth) and Cathy Bizewski (the late, Dennis). Fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
Marlene was born and raised in Scarborough, Ontario. She met Gord as a teenager, through her cousin and not long after, they married. They started their life together in Grafton, Ontario, moving into the Barton family home. They shared many special memories together in those early years at the family cottages in Wasaga Beach and the Laurentien Mountains. Marlene’s move from the big City to Grafton was a transition, but she started working at Toronto Dominion Bank in Cobourg, where she worked for over 35 years and she fostered many long-lasting friendships with her coworkers and members of the community. Marlene and Gord would later move to Precious Corners, where they would reside for over 50 years and raise their family and enjoy the close friendships of their neighbours.
Marlene was known for her natural motherly care and affection and inherited the nickname “Mother” by close friends. This affectionate and caring personality was present, even in her final years. The simplest pleasures throughout her years brought her great joy; spending time with her grandchildren, heading North to the trailer with family, afternoon drinks around the pool with neighbours, summer holidays on the boat travelling the Trent Severn with friends, her annual girls weekend getaway, travelling down south with her sisters and the Legion New Years Day levee where she would dance the day away with Gord and ring in the new year with friends.
We would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Extendicare Port Hope, Mowat House, for their exceptional care throughout the past five years and for their compassion and kindness to Marlene and the family in the final days.
A celebration of life will take place at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, Cobourg, on
Sunday June 2nd, 2024 from 1pm to 4pm. Donations in memory of Marlene may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
