Kim Rudd, former Member of Parliament for Northumberland-Peterborough South, has passed away after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer, surrounded by her loving family at Ed's House, Cobourg.
A true entrepreneur, Kim was a former owner of both Cook's Day School, Willis College, and Archer CPR Training. In 2011, she was awarded an RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur award which specifically recognized her impact on the local economy. However, Kim’s impact on our community was far greater than this. She was a dedicated leader who gave her time and talents to the many causes in which she believed. Kim was involved in numerous local charitable organizations, including serving as the President of the Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce and Chair of the Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee of Northumberland. Kim was a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Cobourg and actively involved with local sports groups, including baseball and hockey.
Beyond our own community, Kim had an extensive career in public service. She served as Vice-Chair of the Ontario Training Completion Assurance Fund Secretariat (TCAF); Vice-President of the Association of Career Colleges; and she was the founding Executive Director of the Association of Private Colleges. Most recently, Kim served as a consultant to the Canadian Nuclear Association.
Kim culminated her life of public service with her 2015 election as the first Member of Parliament for the Riding of Northumberland-Peterborough South. She was then appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources. Kim also served as Chair of the Parliamentary Health Research Caucus and was a member of the Federal Standing Committees of both Finance and Natural Resources. In these capacities, Kim served locally, nationally and internationally with her deep love for Canada at the forefront of all the roles she took on. Her life was governed by her strong desire to give back to all those she possibly could.
Kim’s greatest success, however, was her family. Kim was happiest when she was surrounded by her loved ones who gathered regularly and travelled together extensively. Kim was, and will remain, the heart of this family.
Kim is lovingly remembered and will be deeply missed by her beloved husband Tom Rudd, daughter, Alison Rudd and her wife, Kathy Johnson, daughter, Stefanie Rudd and her husband, Ziyad Sidawi, grandchildren Morgan Johnson, Avery Koehn, Hobie Johnson-Rudd and his wife, Ridhi Sharma, and Amira Sidawi.
Kim will also be missed by her many friends and colleagues.
Kim's family would like to express their profound gratitude to all the medical professionals and staff who supported Kim during this time, particularly Drs Kate Everdell, Stephanie Lheureux, and Kirsten Smerdon.

I got to know Kim as a candidate in the 2011 federal election in which she ran a perfect campaign. A very sad day. My condolences to you and your family. Kim provided a role model for many of us, not only in politics. When I think of her, I think of Advocacy, Tenacity, Leadership, and Dedication to the task, after organizing said task and gathering the team together. The team was a big thing with her. Always “we” never “I”. I admired her ability to carry on a conversation with anyone on any topic, from women’s issues to nuclear power. Her debating skills were stellar. I learned a lot from Kim, respected her and will miss her.

Tom and family, so very sorry to hear of Kim's passing. Even after her diagnosis, she continued to be the inspiration to those of us who new her over the many years. I first met Kim 25 years ago as a fellow boardmember of the then Northumberland Hospice. Having the privilege to work with her again during her successful 2015 election campaign was a joy - always lighting up the campaign office every time she walked through the door. She was an exceptional woman and will be sorrily missed.

So sorry to hear this very sad news of Kim's passing. Although moved from Cobourg in 1980 and as a long term supporter of the Liberal party when Kim became the candidate for the riding Friends and family told me stories of the many community service initiatives she championed. I had the pleasure to work with the 2015 campaign for a few days and once I meet Kim there was little question she was a leader with the biggest of heart and all the right values and a undeniable love for her family. We all should all be so lucky to have people like Kim Rudd cross our paths in life. Tom and family may all the memories of the time you spent together and Kim's long list of accomplishments in support of the community and doing good by others provide you comfort in the days ahead. Kim has left to soon however there is no question she made every moment of her life count.

Admiration is my reaction to Kim, and always has been. In everything she did, every role she played, the best outcome for the people was always among her chief goals. Even before she was sworn in, I found her working hard on the local Syrian refugee initiatives. And once she got to Parliament, her efforts multiplied (as did the lives she touched). She was tireless for as long as God would allow, and so many of us are the beneficiaries. My condolences to the family she always spoke of with such love and pride. To say she will be missed is unnecessary, because they don't make many like Kim any more
