I was sad not to be able to attend the funeral because I know "Jivin' Ivan" impacted sooooo many lives, including mine, and his life is certainly one to be celebrated. Mr. Moore was his own man and he owned it. He wore fifty’s suits and a crew cut in the long-haired seventies, and he looked good doing it. He taught us shop while educating us with wisdom from song lyrics. He curled at Colborne with my dad (Hugh) and they had a lot of respect for each other, which says a lot. He invested in his family and it is great to hear that all three generations are doing so well. He indeed lived life well. So long, Mr. Moore, my condolences to his family for their loss.

With Sincere Sympathy and Deepest Respect. In my classes; Mr. Moore was recognized by his students for his ability to not only teach the curriculum but teach the students. If you didn't get it right away he'd walk you through it. If it was still a struggle he'd change his approach. If after all his efforts ( and possible lack of yours) and you were still struggling... Jivin could turn a colour of red that would let's say "Inspire" you to put forth the same effort he was affording you. I have often reflected on over the past 43 + yrs. since our first encounter; The lessons far beyond Blueprints, Metal shop, & Woodworking that this Gentleman Farmer instilled in all he guided. Remembered long before Repected long after. Your work is done rest well.

We are very sorry to hear of Ivan’s passing. We met Ivan and Elinor on a trip to Brazil and Argentina. At first I was not sure how to take Ivan and his humour. Once we got to know him we had a great trip with him and found out what a great guy he was. He was proud of his family and farm. Our heartfelt sympathy to your whole family on your loss. Ivan was one of the greatest men that I ever knew. He was by far my favourite teacher. I used to tell him that every time that I saw him. Ivan was a great family friend and one of a kind. My parents often met with Ivan and Elinor and any visit with Ivan was light, sarcastic and humorous. One of the good old boys for sure.

Sending our condolences to Elinor and the Moore families. Ivan was One of my favourite teachers in high school and a friend when I moved back to the area 35 years ago. What a pleasant surprise when I found that we shared a common interest with quality vintage Cockshutt tractors and machinery too. I always enjoyed when we crossed paths and the sage advice that he gave willingly, such as “eat an apple, it’ll improve your personality” and many others. There’s a row of 30(?) walnut trees along a cedar rail fence that I transplanted from seedlings that Ivan gave me in 1993 and I often think of him when I walk by them. Like everyone else, I have a lot of great memories of Ivan and I’m sorry for your loss.

Our sincerest condolences to the Moore family on the passing of Ivan. We will always remember his sharp wit, warm smile and love of conversation on our visits to the farmer's market and orchard over the years. He was a wonderful man who will be missed by many.

I’m so sorry to hear about Ivan’s passing. He was a good friend. We had a good visit a while back and a Band Concert in Victoria Park when we came back to Cobourg to visit our Daughter, Doris. She plays Sax with the Concert Band of Cobourg. Ivan and I shared a live if working with wood; I am a woodturner in Langley, BC. May he rest in piece; we will see him again in Heaven.

Elinor and family. It was with great sadness that I read of Ivan's passing. You have lost a treasure of a father, grandfather, and down to earth friend. Elinor, Merna, Jennifer, Heidi, Kelly and families ... Ivan was a colleague at the West and a really nice guy. I don't think I ever heard him complain (as some teachers did !) He went with the flow, and I admired him for that. I remember when his wood-working class made wooden toys at Christmas.I thought that was a wonderful thing to do. I'm glad he had a chance to travel after his many retirements! My condolences to all of you. May fond memories sustain you at this difficult time.

Dear Elinor & Girls: Ivan was one of those people who brought a smile to many. His infectious humour and positive energy was felt whenever he entered a room. Hold onto your precious memories. Ivan will always be with you and his spirit will help you through the difficult days ahead. Thinking of you.

Mr. Moore left a huge mark on my life, as he did with so many young men and women throughout his career. (Somewhere a wooden salad bowl exists that I turned under Ivan's watchful eye, and there were hundreds of gun racks that were proudly built in the bowels of CDCI West that had his stamp of approval!) Later I got to know Ivan as a parent and friend, often seeing him & Elinor cheering on his grand kids at various sporting events. We would often chat and get caught up. Those were meetings I always enjoyed. To Ivan's family, I wish you well. He was a good man, and I know your memories of his kindness and humour will be a huge comfort to you all.

It is not often that a death notice makes me stop and reflect and be sad. Mr. Moore was my favorite teacher coming out of high school . You can ask my kids I have been quoting Mr. Moore for many years. A man with a style like no other. As you can tell from the numerous condolences on the website.... Mr. Moore made a difference. From showing me how to run a bead in welding shop to making a lamp or chcss set in wood working.... Mr. Moore made learning fun. He would ask what the difference was when you cut your finger off with the band saw or the scroll saw. His response was "Sonny when you cut your finger off with the scroll saw.... you feel it. " To this day everytime I use either of these saws I remember Mr. Moore. And yes I have all of my fingers..... Each time I would talk to a girl in class he would remind me that she was looking for a man and not a boy.... He was bang on... I didn't take shop at first. I took grade 9 when I was in grade 11. I was older than my class mates but these people became good friends to me to this day. I never skipped a Mr. Moore class. I was hooked. Mr. Moore became a neighbor to my business later in life and he would often stop with his Tractor and we would talk. He often asked me to call him Ivan..... I said you will always be Mr. Moore to me. Rest in peace Mr. Moore. Thank you for all of your help. My condolences to the Moore family.

Roy and Ivan were known as "ME AND MY SHADOW", resulting from spirited activities in and out of class. After High School our career paths both involved teaching. Socially, the four of us spent significant time together. Ivan and Roy exchanged "best man" duties at each others' weddings. Regular visitations occurred as our families grew. There are very few families who can say "a life well lived" with such certainty and passion; Ivan carved his path well and I consider our family fortunate to have been a small part of that well-lived life. Ivan was a valued colleague at C.D.C.I. West; he was my daughter's employer in his early 'strawberry days', and Don and I enjoyed watching the Moore girls and our girls as they grew. As a friend, Ivan was a conversationalist and a humourist and always provided an insightful and unique perspective in our many conversations. I'm so sorry to hear of Ivan's passing. He was a friend and a mentor to me at young age, from introducing me to drafting which became my career, to working on the farm for 2 summers where I learned a lot and had a great time with him and his family. My condolences to you Elinor and the Family.

I'm so sorry to hear of Ivan's passing. Ivan was a very skillful and thoughtful teacher, and got me started on my lifetime interest in woodworking. I recall making a night stand under his wise tutelage in woodworking shop, and when it was finished, Ivan asked me if he could purchase it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't that good, but that gesture certainly boosted my confidence. It appears that I'm not alone in my appreciation for this great man Sam Bradshaw

Mr Moore was my shop teacher in early 70s, I can remember him saying to me all the time, Mark what kind of a kudukis you trying to build today 😀, with his guidance I built a chess set in a case, which he put in the showcase for everyone to see, I still have that chess set, everytime I see it, I think of him, thankyou Mr Moore, condolences to the family, RIP

I came late to CDCI west (one of two Cobourg high schools). I did not fit. It was, frankly, gonna be a challenge. Ivan was outside the “shop” area. He was checking people out, talking randomly, ALWAYS with direct eye contact. I approached. Said I wanted to kniw2 how to bind something, how carpentry worked, He looked at me. I swear he saw me as female/searching/wanting some verification of product that would make a female COUNT. He had a toothpick in his mouth (lunchtime), He said to me: “You’ve got the wrong shop. You’re words. Come back next year if that doesn’t work.” Clear. Direct.Honest. So FAR ahead of his time. Ivan saw. I think still sees, people where they are. And, OMG, we can chat about it for hours. Blessed man. All those years ago: a gift of confidence when nit was so needed.

To the Moore family. My deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. Moore. I never had him for a teacher, but I was always happy to see his smiling face and gentle demeanor. He would speak at events and I was always calmed by his quiet, gentle nature. His teaching was always go well received. You didn't have to be his student to know the positive effect he had on others. I chatted with him a few times and appreciated what everyone loved about him. There needs to be more Mr Moore's in the world. He hasn't changed a bit with his youthfulness and quality of life. God bless you and until we meet again, know the positive marks on people's lives you didn't even know you effected. God bless the Moore family and may your many memories of him keep you in happiness. To Elinor and family: many join you in sadness at the loss of a special man from your lives. I don't think I ever ended a conversation with Ivan without a smile on my face. I imagine most of his students could tell a story that starts with, "Do you remember the day that Mr. Moore......" Good memories for the days ahead. Marian and Michael.

We are so sorry to hear of Ivan’s death. He offered so much to his community. He knew all the students of CDCI West whether they were in shop classes or not, always giving a friendly greeting. We will miss a great teacher, employer and friend.

Colin and I were deeply saddened to hear of our dear friend Ivan’s passing. We enjoyed many good times together . We were so happy that our grandkids got to know him when they got together during summer visit with Ivan’s three youngest grandkids. He was a special man who cared deeply for others. His sense of humour was something we will never forget.He was priceless as the auctioneer at Grafton Hort Club’s annual plant auctions. So many good memories of a great family man and friend. What an incredible life Mr.Moore crafted and led. Condolences to his family and friends. I recall his confidence, grin and quick wit at the West. My family looked forward to the produce sign changes for strawberry and harvest seasons at his and Elinor's wonderful farm on our drives in and out of town. How lucky we are to have been on the receiving end of his heartfelt hard work and passions. Rest in peace Mr. Moore.

Mr. Moore/Ivan. As a student at the West, I was scared to go down to Mr. Moore’s area, because at that time it was the boys area. But he always met me with a smile, and a hello. Then - fast forward, I worked at the West as a secretary. Ivan was an amazing man and I so loved our conversations about life and the kids and the farm. Elinor thank you for sharing him with us, and for the best pie recipes I will ever have! Most of our conversations were about family and the farm. He loved each and every one of you and was always so proud of his family. I loved going down and buying things at the orchard just to have a chat with him again. He lived life to the fullest, and was truly an example of how we should do it. Every day is a gift! Rest peacefully, Ivan, your legacy will live on.

Kelly, Heidi, Jennifer, Merna & Elinor, your family is in our thoughts & prayers. Ivan was such a kind man, with a unique sense of humour. His legacy resonates through several generations in my family, from my Dad, and Great Uncle Earl, to my sisters & I. Ivan had a way with words, in so many ways, from being strong & supportive, to having just the right phrase and twinkle in his eye, to make you laugh. He will be greatly missed. Jennifer and family. I am saddened to hear about the passing of “ Mr Moore “ I have so many fond memories of him and my time in the CDCI West wood shop. He taught me so much and helped me with many projects both for class and for my own personal projects. I even remember working on a project for your family , a set of dining chairs , with him in our spare time. He had a great sense of humour and was well respected in the classroom. He shaped my life in many ways and I will always appreciate my time with him. He will be missed by many.

What wonderful memories you’ve shared of your dad! He truly has touched so many lives in such different ways. I remember him cheering the girls on at baseball. We are thinking of you all.

Some teachers have a magical gift of bridging the gap and connecting with their students. Such was Mr. Moore. Ever helpful, critical, ascerbic, funny, great sense of humour. I always looked forward to woodworking AND I learned things that I still rely on at 75🤗🤗

I am sorry to hear about Ivan my condolences to the entire family❤️ I will let mom know. The last time I saw Ivan he was walking with his walker on the road leading to orchard. He will be truly missed😔 when he visited Ambulatory Care he was always a bright light joking with the nurses😊

Our sincere condolences Jennifer and family. While I didn’t have the pleasure of having your Dad for a teacher, I did have the pleasure of having him reinforce a broken crutch (broken by a senior student who took them and accidentally broke one of them right outside of the shop room). He not only repaired it, he added a hook on it so I was able to carry my book bag more easily. One thing I remember is he was always smiling.

Dear Elinor and family, While I did not have the pleasure of learning "shop skills" from Ivan, I was set up in life with Elinor as one of my elementary grade teachers. Together, they cast a wide net of influence for several generations - with generosity of heart and wit. Thanks to you both for strengthening the local community.

My condolences to all of the Moore family. I was honoured for a few years to have Mr. Moore as my neighbour. He was a hard working, funny and wonderful man. I also have him to thank for the very first cat I ever owned. He could have sold that cat for $100 to some city folks visiting the orchard, but he made a promise to a young girl that she could have that orange kitten. He kept his promise. That was the type of man Mr.Moore was. I remember when I told him that cat lived 21 years and he said well then I guess it was meant to be.

Forever forged into my memories of growing up is Mr Moore and his demeanour as a positive roll model. I didn’t know him beyond shop class at the West, but he left an impression on me. Mr Moore and his classroom are a part of who I am today, almost 40 years later. My condolences to the family, and thank you Mr Moore.

To the Moore family I'm so sorry to hear this very sad news and my thoughts are with you at this time. Mr Moore is undoubtedly my favorite teacher I had throughout my school years. I can't imagine where I would be without the skills learned from him. I can't tell you how many times when helping others with various projects and being asked where did you learn this stuff I would bend their ear telling them of this amazing teacher I had in high school. To this day woodworking is still one of my active hobbies and there was a period of time it brought extra income to our home. I'm confident there are not enough pages to list his accomplishments as I remembered he was seldom idle and trust he packed two lifetimes into his years. Rest in Peace MR Moore your work and teaching will go on in many.

A beautifully crafted tribute for a man who crafted so much beauty. Ivan and Elinor were special friends of my parents, and from our early days in Ayr Park, the Moore and Tuer families were forever intertwined. There are too many special moments to recall here involving Ivan and our family, but I will never forget his spontaneous tribute to my father during his burial.
