I have fond memories of Auntie Irene. From her fancy gold tooth which I thought as a child was super glamorous, to her kindness and gentle manner of being. I loved going to tea with my Mom at her house when I was young because she let us little kids choose our own "fancy" teacups. She always trusted us with her real china cups and saucers and to her credit we never did break one. Adding a lump of sugar to some tea was a highlight for me. When I saw her as an adult she always had a warm hug and smile for me. She was a sweet lady. Hugs and condolences to the family & everyone who knew her.
Condolences to the family of Aunt Irene. She was a wonderful person who always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. From Bonnie Palmer, Lacee and Sherry Heenan.
We wish we’d known her. Sincere condolences to Dave, Alison, Louise and all. John & Jane Smart
So sorry to hear of the passing of your mom , Louise. My condolences to you and your family.
I write this note of condolence as a neighbour of sorts to Irene. For almost three years, my wife Christine has lived in Extendicare next to Irene. Christine was a nurse and, as nurses do, she was frequently on the lookout for an opportunity to be helpful, for some evidence that she was needed by others. Early on in Chris’ tenancy at Extendicare, she would interrupt a chat with me to say that she needed to check on “My Little Friend Next Door,” which was her special name for Irene. You see, without knowing so, Irene’s mere presence was renewing Chris’ feeling of being useful in the world. Now, Chris is herself beyond being helpful to others, though she still looks about with some urgency, trying, I feel, to make sense of what she sees. She will no longer see Irene nor, perhaps, even remember her. But I remember her and will think of her and give thanks for her presence in Chris’ life.
