Gilbert Cecil "Gil" Fletcher

April 1, 1936 - September 21, 2022

Peacefully, on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice, in his 87th year. Beloved husband of Lynne Fletcher who pre-deceased him in June 2022. Loving father of Carl, Cameron (Deb), Laurie Wilstermann and Blair. Cherished grandfather of Tristin (Phil), Ashley (Damian) Wesolowski, Chase (Amber), Kyle (Charlotte) Wilstermann, David (Lina) Wilstermann, Christa, Cassidy, Jordan, Aydan, Brandon and Marissa. Great-grandfather to Emerson Godbout, Crewe Walker, Liv Walker, Madison Wesolowski, Jakub Wesolowski, Carson, Sydney, Wesley, Ashton Wilstermann, Ivy Wilstermann, Jay Wilstermann and Aya Wilstermann. Son of the late Carold and Katherine Fletcher. Gil was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and headed to Eastern Ontario where he started his career with Rexall drugs as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, then branched into Consolidated FastFrate as Vice President of operations both in Toronto, Ontario. His career changed paths and he decided to join St. Clair paint and wallpaper as a franchisee in Ottawa and opened 3 additional stores in Ottawa. Gil decided on early retirement at 55 years of age, and after a short term in retirement decided to move onto the water in Westport, Ontario to settle. After a short stint in retirement, he longed to continue in business as he was an entrepreneur with a dedicated taste for business and operations. Gil then decided to open and successfully ran the Army Surplus warehouse located in Kingston, Ontario for many years. The final stop after official retirement was Cobourg, Ontario where he lived for the past 14 years with his predeceased wife Katherine Lynne Fletcher. Gil was driven by business and succeeding in all aspects of business to provide the care, service and compassion to customers that filtered to his family. That passion carried forward into all his four children who all have successful careers. Three of them own and operate their own businesses to this day falling in his footsteps. Gil was a driver, an ambitious business operator who demonstrated that hard work pays off and through his charm and dedication to his friends and family he was the “Fletch” that will forever be in our hearts. A private family service will take place. Donations to the Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.

Back in the 90's I worked for Gil at the Army Surplus along with Bob and James. It was a wonderful time. He was always fair and direct. If you were being stupid he didn't dance around but let you know what you were doing and how to correct it. He had plenty of knowledge to share and I did learn quite a bit from him. Because of his intensive nature, I now have a compulsion to fold clothes and straighten shelves in a certain way...Thanks for that Gil. Years later the experience of working for Gil has never left me. He made a positive difference in my life and he will be well remembered.

Laura & Rene Roberge - September 23, 2022
