Barb passed peacefully surrounded by family on January 12, 2022 at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg, Ontario at 72 years of age. Beloved mother of Wanda Brooks (late Paul), Ray Davis (Barb) and Darlene Heeley (Shawn). A proud grandma to 6 grandchildren, Brandon Brooks (Katie), Tyler Brooks (Ria), Katelyn Brooks, Emma Davis, Meghan Heeley, Evan Heeley and 3 great grandchildren. Barb grew up in a large family in Port Hope with many brothers and sisters: late Bruce Clarke (Carol) , Helen Monteith (Clifford), Shirley Raby (late Doug), Bernice Stanley (Don), late Gordon Clarke, Wayne Clarke (Dorothy), Elaine Jolly (Doug), Susan Clarke (Mike), Judy Andrews (Don) and honorary sister and friend Violet Whitehead. She is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Barb loved to dance and met her soul mate (late George Covert) later in life and enjoyed her retirement in Colborne with her friends Katie, Kim and Val, and cat Sheba. Friends are invited to a graveside service at Castleton Cemetery on Saturday May 14th at 10am. A celebration of Barb’s life will be held at the Keeler Centre, Colborne following the graveside service from 11 – 1 pm. Those wishing may make a memorial donation to the Northumberland Humane Society.

It’s taken some time for me to write this because I’m still processing the loss. Barb, you were a light in the darkness. You brought a man I loved and respected so much joy. Words can’t express the value you added to my grandfathers life. The side smile and giggle he showed when you were mentioned was both comforting and a relief. I know the last years of his life weren’t easy and the life you had planned to live together wasn’t what either of you expected. But you never wavered, your dedication to him was what we all hope to find in the times when we need someone in our most vulnerable time. I will never forget what you did for him and our family. My condolences to your children, grandchildren, family and friends. I’m comforted in knowing you’re in a place where music is playing, the dance floor is open and laughter rings out over a big bonfire! With love, Jorden.

When I remember Barb I will think of beautiful flowers and her love of gardening. In warm weather you’d find her by the pool, music playing while puttering in the gardens with a cold drink nearby and an evening fire at the ready…we were ALWAYS welcome And like for many, life had it’s ups and downs but she always tried to make the best of it often with smile and a cheers! Wanda , Ray and Darlene , I will always remember you kids when you would come for supper with your parents and going to dances with your Mom & Dad , always had a good time .We worked together for many years and always stayed in touch with one another . It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Barb. Her name will always be synonymous with a love of flowers and beautifully tended gardens . For our family, she will be remembered for her devotion to and loving care of George. Especially in his later years which were difficult. For this we will be forever grateful.
