It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth Anne Harmer announce her passing on July 27, 2021, in her 87th year. Anne is predeceased by her husband Bruce Malcolm (Mac) Harmer, and her brother John deSolla; and will be fondly remembered by her sister-in-law Greta deSolla and nephews Keith and Shane. She will be sorely missed by her children Deborah Caputo (Rusty), Beverley Kinnear, Geoffrey Harmer (Janet), Heather Batty (Dave) and Alec Harmer (Lori). She will also be lovingly remembered by her thirteen grandchildren Corrie, Erin, Lara, Stacey, Scott, Nicola, Mallory, Blair, Rachel, Alexandra, Mac, Victoria and Nicholas; her great grandchildren Sidney, Olivia, Hannah, Molly, Nova, Chloe, Kaden, Ethan, Oliver, Ashton; her step-grandchildren Tauri, Brett and Logan; her acquired ‘granddaughter’ Tracy Reeds; as well as all the additions to the family through marriages, partners, and dear friends. Anne’s door was always open, whether at her home, cottage or Florida abode. There was always room for one more at her table.
Despite the large family, Anne found time for hobbies and interests, travel and work, and, of course, her doggies. Whether it was learning to navigate in the new computer world, drive a 27 ft RV across the country, or take a European tour, she was fearless. She challenged official roles for women without even being aware she was doing it, and retired from the Insurance field where it is said she was a ‘Farm Mutual legend’.
Anne has been the hub of her family; her sharp mind, her tech savvy, her love of travel and adventure, and perhaps most of all, her legendary skills in the kitchen, will be greatly missed. Every pie, butter tart, loaf of bread, spicy spaghetti sauce or crab apple jelly will be a reminder of her.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr Obomighie and Tina Balchand for their compassionate care as the effects of Sjogrens Syndrome took their toll, and to Tarek and Eva Deeb for their friendship and support.
At Anne’s request, there will be no funeral service, but if desired donations can be made in support of Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, or Heart and Stroke, or to the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg.
Just found out that Anne had passed. We lived in same park in Florida. We kept in touch enjoying our lunches at Lang’s across from park. Anne and I played the words game, she always beat me. Condolences to the family. Stan and Marion McKichan 307-31 Victoria St. Strathroy, ON N7G3Y4
