At the Northumberland Hills Hospital on Monday July 5, 2021 at the age of 91. Ed Lorenz loving husband of Diane for 68 years.
Loving father of Peter (Denise). Grandfather of Nicholas (Trisha) and Alexandria. Great grandfather of Lukas and Aurora. Uncle of Fran (Dan) Grey. Predeceased by his brothers William and Harold and by his sister Annie.
Ed was born in Maxstone Saskatchewan in 1929. Moved to Dunnville where he met and married Diane in 1952. They moved to Cobourg in 1965. In 1979 he started Lorenz & Son Mfg. with his wife Diane and son Peter. He was a long time member of Rotary International. Ed was a Paul Harris Fellow, past president with 30 years perfect attendance. He enjoyed summers fishing at the family cottage on Buckshot Lake on his boat the “Pretty Busy”, and spending winters in his favourite place on earth, Maui Hawaii, with family and friends. Seeing a great need for a palliative care unit in Cobourg, Ed was proud and humbled to have “Ed’s House” carry his name.
A memorial service will be held at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre, Cobourg on Thursday July 15 at 11:00 am. Due to COVID 19 restrictions attendance will be by invitation only. Those wishing may make memorial donations to Ed’s House – Northumberland Hospice Care or the Northumberland Hill Hospital Foundation. I was so saddened to learn the news that Ed had passed away. Ed Lorenz was one of the truly great men that I have had the privilege of pending time with and getting to know. He was an important part of life growing up and in my late teens and early 20s. I will forever be in debt to him for the wisdom, humor and kindness that he and his family provided. We enjoyed working with Ed on the Rotary Hospital of Hope in the interior of the Dominican Republic and many other projects. Dear Diane and Peter and family, I first met Ed when he was working for Simon Day, at the foods I think. He was telling me about this clamp he was working on. He would drop in to the store to keep me up to date on potential uses. Of course the rest is history. I have been proud to know this truly generous family. Sorry to hear of Ed’s passing.I first met Ed and his brother Bill in 1963 when I started to work at G.F. Ed and Bill worked for a Company,Comstock who were in the process of moving the relocated Windsor Cereal Process equipment to Cobourg. When Ed started his own Company ,he relocated to Cobourg.Over the many years after I got to know him.He was always the same hard worker,friendly,with his patented smile.God Bless
A true example of the type of Rotarian, and frankly human, so many wish to be. Kind, funny, giving, humble and generous of spirit. His wine making (and drinking!!!), his plantings - such enterprises! My deepest sympathy to Diane and Peter and so many lives he touched by being a true mentor and leader. Thank you for sharing Ed with all of us.
