Marian Bencsics

May 1, 1938 - April 27, 2021

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Bencsics.
In October 1938, an infant Mary arrived to the great country of Canada, from Poland, alongside her eldest brother John, and loving parents Mary and John Czerwien-Hubiak (later Cerven). Mary was raised in Port Arthur (Thunder Bay), Ontario, on Hilldale Road, to a farming family.
Mary attended Hillcrest high school where she specialized in secretarial and office skills. These took her to Toronto where she met her beloved spouse George Bencsics and where she spent the rest of her life. Mary’s passion took her in many different directions; such as, working as an assistant to the elderly, working at St. Michael’s hospital, and volunteering in the community.
Mary’s many artistic talents allowed her to enjoy music, drawing, painting and writing. She also loved to travel, and while she visited both the east and west coasts of Canada, her most frequent destination was home to Thunder Bay.
Mary’s passing was the result of a tragic traffic accident. She is predeceased by her parents, sister Pauline (Cerven), brother Michael (Cerven) and her husband George Bencsics. Mary is survived by her cherished son Dean Bensics, younger sister Anne Ricciutelli (John), and older brother John Cerven (Jeanette), along with a number of nieces, great-nieces and a great-nephew.
Mary will be buried beside her husband in a private service in Cobourg, Ontario. Donations in Mary’s honour can be made to local hospitals.
