George Chalovich

April 16, 1932 - January 18, 2021

Peacefully at Rosewood Estates Retirement Residence, Cobourg, Ontario, in his 89th year.
George was born and raised in Baltimore and Cobourg. He married Joan Finley in 1956 at her family's farm in Wicklow, and they were married for almost 65 years. George finished school in Grade 8 and began working to help support the family. He became a mechanic by trade, working at Ford and Chrysler garages, and then 27 years at G.E. Plastics in Cobourg. His passion was restoring antique cars, with his 1930 Ford Model A Roadster being his pride and joy. He and Joan enjoyed many good years living at Cherryhill Farm in Grafton.
Oldest son of the late Joseph Chalovich and Helen (nee Atanasoff). George is survived by his wife Joan, children Karen (late Bill Smith) and Brian (Kelly Robinson) and 3 loving grandchildren - Forrest, Camryn and Bria. Brother of Mary, Eleanor Abramczyk (late Nick) and Tom (Betty-Ann). Predeceased by sisters Eva Abramczyk (late Tony), Elizabeth (late Bob Parsons), Helen Hibert (late Leroy) and Kathleen. Also predeceased by brothers John (Barbara) and Joseph. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to all our friends and family throughout the years for their love and support. A service for immediate family only will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E., Cobourg on Saturday January 23rd at 11 am. The service may be viewed live on their website at www.maccoubrey.com on Saturday at 11 am. Interment in Fairview Cemetery Grafton. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Rosewood Retirement Residence, LHIN Palliative Service, Dr. Xi, and the Nurses of St. Elizabeth's and PSWs of ParaMed Homecare who were all so kind and caring. Memorial donations may be made to St Andrew's United Church Grafton, Trinity United Church Cobourg or the Northumberland United Way.

George had a wealth of knowledge about cars and tractor and my husband Jim learned a few tips from him about fixing a tractor. He will be missed as the constant companion of Joan and I always respected their closeness. Best to all the family and I am sorry I could not attend the virtual service. take care all

Eleanor Abramczyk - January 22, 2021

Deep, heartfelt condolences to George's family from his sister Mary who does not own a computer. Mary (89) is the oldest of our family of 10 children and George (88) was the oldest boy. They were very close and she would visit the farm and insist on helping him with the outside work and chores. When the family was in Aruba, one of George's young pigeons broke a wing, so Mary took it home and cared for it for weeks. She would do anything for her favourite brother. She loved the other three too but they did not live close.

Hello Family: My brother George had a great personality. He was always in a good mood, teasing and joking around. He had a great memory for reminiscing. His passion was: HOMING PIGEONS. always had them since a young boy. RESTORING ANTIQUE CARS. My favourite was the convertible with a rumble seat in the back. The old hearse was an old original. The front was 3/4 of a car and the back was 3/4 of another car. But he just couldn't bring himself to restore it. GARAGE SALES for tools. He had every tool you could think of. CLOCKS. He taught himself how to fix all kinds. JACK-OF-ALL-TRADES. He could fix anything & freely offered his services to others. HE LOVED his close-knit family the most!!
