Robert Donald Bruce

January 27, 1932 - December 28, 2019

Peacefully at the Port Hope Extendicare surrounded by the love of his family on December 28th, 2019 in his 88th year, Robert was called home to join his wife Marlene (nee Mark). Bob served his country in the Army for 32 years. He was a Korean War Veteran, and spent time in Germany, Egypt, and various other parts of the world for Peace Keeping Tours. Bob was a man of few words but spoke proudly of the time he spent serving our country. Bob’s caring, patience and humour will live on in the hearts of his children; Sharon Stanton (Brian), Carol Scott (Steve), Barry Bruce (Michelle), Garry Bruce (Sharon) and Brian Bruce (Nancy). Grandpa Bob was a wonderful and loving grandfather to Adam Scott (Jamie), Ashley Brown, Courtney Jeske (Ander), Kristen Bennoit (Isaac), Rebecca Aspinall (Brad), Kayla Unger (Carl), Justin Bruce (Tara), Chantal Bruce, Darcy Bruce (Adam), Nick Bruce, Kathleen Ens (Zac), Jason Bruce, and Joshua Bruce. Great Grandpa Bob will be missed by his 13 great grandchildren. Bob will also be missed by his caregiver and friend Amanda Teixeira (and family). She cared for Bob and provided support to him and our family in a way that words cannot describe. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home Reception Centre, 30 King Street East, Cobourg on Friday, January 3rd, 2020 from 2 to 5 pm. The family would like to thank the staff at Port Hope Extendicare for their kindness and compassion. A special thank you to Dr. Mark Essak for his dedication and support. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make a memorial donation to Community Care Northumberland-Ed’s House or Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation.
