Passed peacefully at home surrounded by her beloved family on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at the age of 57. Beloved wife of Barry (“almost got him trained”) for 32 years. Proud, loving mother of the four best kids in the world: Mark (Lauren), Adam (Rachel), Maria L. (Stephen) and Angela (Andrew). Maria will be sadly missed by her fun-loving, supportive siblings Rose-Marien (Nik), Servaas (Deborah), Hubert (Yvonne), Willy (Pat), Jozef (Holly). Survived by Lena. Special people in her life were the entire Godfrey/Watts family (best in-law ‘family’ a person can have) and sisters-of0the-heart Mary B., Lynn G. and sisters-in-song (Northumberland Chorus – present and past). Missed by her special friend Wally. Music was always one of Maria’s passions as she was an enthusiastic member/quartet member/Director of Northumberland Chorus of Sweet Adelines for 34 years. She was also a Master Electrician for 34 years with GM, while spending any additional leisure time as an avid back county canoe camper, hunter and gardener. A Celebration of Maria’s Life will be held at the Columbus Community Centre 232 Spencer St. E., Cobourg on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 2 to 5 pm. So sorry to hear of Maria's passing. She certainly was a classy lady, full of life. We remember her at the hockey arena when the boys were young. She was always so supportive of all the kids and really "got" what they were there for- to have fun, be part of a team and form friendships. She was an honorable "hockey mom" who could teach others a lesson or two about how to behave at your kids hockey games! lol!The world could use more Maria's! Maria was a long time Sweet Adeline friend for many of us in Orangeville Show Chorus. Her wonderful smile, crazy sense of humour and boisterous laughter are things about Maria that we remember fondly. We send our sincere condolences to her family.
I knew Maria through Sweet Adelines. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. She was always positive, kind and friendly to me. She was a friendly face in a sea of people I didn't know and I always felt comfortable around her. She will be missed. My condolences to her family and to her chorus!

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Maria's passing when they announced it tonight during our Christmas Chorus rehearsal. I only met her when I joined in the fall of 2016; however, Maria's liveliness and joy will live in my heart and in my memories. I am deeply saddened by Maria's passing. Maria and I became friends as sisters of harmony in Sweet Adelines - both being directors of small choruses. Our very first meeting was at a leadership weekend; we roomed together - Angela was just a baby. When our organization split our regions, we would try to see each other when her region competed in Syracuse. I will always remember her contagious laugh. My sincere condolences to Maria's family.
