Peacefully at the Northumberland Hills Hospital on Thursday, September 12th, William (Bill) Johnson at 88 years of age. Beloved husband of the late Lois Johnson (nee Clark). Cherished father of Laura Howe (Allyn), Victoria (Vicky) Johnson, Heather Hutchison (John), Robert Johnson (Nan Majlaton), and Donald Johnson (Domenica). Dear grandfather of Graeme and Matthew Howe, Blayne and Hayley Hutchison, and Lily, George and Rose Johnson. Originally from Toronto, Bill worked for Maclean Hunter Limited for over thirty years. After retiring, Bill opened and operated his own business (Johnson Marketing Communications) for the next 11 years. Bill and Lois moved to Cobourg permanently, with their daughter Vicky, in 1993. Bill was a dedicated Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow who was proud of the initiatives and accomplishments of the organization and its members. He and Lois devoted much time and energy to supporting various local charities and initiatives, and he was honoured several times over the years for his dedication to the Town of Cobourg. Bill was an avid fan and supporter of The Cobourg Cougars, seldom missing their home games and travelling to many away games. He enjoyed writing and contributed to a local Cobourg paper, writing a column as ‘Mr Bill’ for several years. Bill enjoyed his coffee with ‘The Senate’ and dinners with the ‘Sunday Supper Club’, and was always grateful for the support of his wonderful friends. The family extends special appreciation to John Bark, and the incredible staff at both Northumberland Hills Hospital and the Palisade Gardens. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home Reception Centre, 30 King St. E. on Sunday, October 6th from 1 to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation, Special Olympics Ontario or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be truly appreciated.
