Gary Austin Garnett

March 22, 1933 - August 2, 2019

Passed away Friday, August 2, at Streamway Villa, surrounded by his family. He leaves his devoted wife of 62 years Mavis, his children Glenn (Charlene), Cheryl (Steve) and Brent (Therese), and grandchildren Lauren, Michael, Andrew and Austin. He was the last remaining member of the Garnetts of Lancaster, N.B., predeceased by his parents Daisy and Harry, sisters Mame, Doreen and Joyce and brothers Bill, Delbert and Jack. Gary worked for the Royal Bank for 30 years, loved his birds (in particular purple martins), gardening, woodworking and antiquing. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Alzheimer Society. There will be a private family service. A very special thanks to the amazing staff of Streamway Villa who brightened his final years and brought great comfort to his family.  Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.

MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE / DONATIONS

Jean Docherty (Turtles) - August 23, 2019

Dear Mavis,I was very sad to read of Gary's passing. He had such a wonderful sense of humour. I remember you telling me that it was impossible to have a serious conversation with him about a problem because he just kept joking. I hope your wonderful memories of your life together sustain you and your family.

Mark and Mary-Jane Tonello - August 7, 2019

Gary and Mavis were the best neighbors! I remember Gary in the pouring rain, trying to fling scrambled eggs on a pie plate, 15 feet in the air to his purple Martin birdhouse and playing his cd of bird songs in the garden to attract the purple martins. We picked apples and crabapples and discussed flowers, and gardens and watering strategies. He always had time to chat or lend a helping hand. A true gentleman. Sending our sincere condolences to Mavis and family.

I am very sorry for your loss and you have our sincere condolences. It is not easy but, as many of you have said, you have a lot of great stories and memories to remind yourself of your wonderful father, husband, grandfather and friend. I still have memories of that purple Martin (vacant, in our case) hotel that seemed to go up 30 feet in the air that my dad (Del) borrowed from Gary for a couple years in hopes of attracting that elusive bird.Very best to all of you.
