On Friday August 24, 2012 Susie (affectionately known as “Tubbie”) lost her hard fought battle to cancer at the young age of 55 years. Her beautiful heart stopped beating at Northumberland Hills Hospital surrounded by the love, support and tears of her husband and family. Susie is survived by the love of her life, best friend and soul mate, husband Larry Hewitt; and her loved & cherished step children Luke & his wife Courtney, Shannon and Samantha Hewitt. She is reunited with her predeceased parents, Alex & Florian Rutherford and her canine companion Ty. Susie will be forever loved and missed by her siblings Pat & wife Shelley; Alex & wife Cheryl; Cindy Jakobi & partner Don; Paulie Deseure & husband Terry; and Peggy Minifie & husband Craig. She was the doting, fun-loving Aunt of Katie, Mikel & Allie Rutherford; Sydney & Shelby Rutherford; Mitchel & Sam Jakobi; Elliott & Mackenzie Deseure; and Riley & Casey Minifie. Susie will forever be remembered & loved by her mother & father in law, Sandra & Ed Hewitt. As Susie requested, there will be a “Celebration of Her Life” on Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 12 noon - 3 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Colborne. If desired, donations to honor Susie’s memory may be made to Northumberland Humane Society, or Northumberland Hills Hospital Palliative Care Unit, or any charity of your choice. Heartfelt thanks, gratitude and our deepest respect are extended to the incredible, compassionate nurses & staff in the Palliative Care Unit at NHH and to Dr. Moorsom – a man respected for his gentle, caring nature. A private cremation took place on Monday August 27, 2012, arrangements by MacCoubrey Funeral Home.
