Lois Johnson

August 15, 1936 - February 28, 2008

Johnson, Lois (nee Clark) surrounded by her loving family, Lois passed away on Thursday, February 28, at Northumberland Hills Hospital after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. Lois is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, William (Mr. Bill), her daughters Laura Howe (Allyn), Victoria, Heather Hutchison (John) and her sons Robert and his friend Michelle and son Donald (Domenica (Misiti). She is survived by sisters Donna Smith (Ron) and Eleanor Kasycz and brother Roland Clark (Lorna) and her much idolized grandchildren Graeme and Matthew Howe and Blayne and Hayley Hutchison. She was predeceased by sister Joyce and brothers Leland and Douglas, all of Megantic. Lois was born August 15, 1936 in Lac Megantic, Quebec. She lived a rich and full life of dedication to her family, many friends and community. Since coming to Cobourg in 1991 she served as a member of the Town's first ?First Night? Committee; a member of the Board of Community Living West Northumberland; volunteered with Cobourg Hospital Auxiliary; co-chaired, with her husband, The 2000 United Way Campaign (Cobourg); served many years on the executive of the Cobourg Inner Wheel, including two years as club president; served two years as Secretary Treasurer of the Hospital Auxilliary Association of Ontario, Zone 7. and actively supported Cobourg's Community In Blooms committees for four years. She was a member of the Baltimore United Church Choir where her love of music was clearly evident. After raising her five children, Lois eagerly embraced the new technologies, returned to school for upgrading, and then worked on contract for IBM, followed by five years with Apsco Products Limited in Toronto. In 1988 she and her husband opened and successfully operated their own business, Johnson Marketing Communications (JMC) for the next eleven years. They moved to Cobourg permanently in 1993. Lois loved people and made lasting friendships easily. She lived a rich and full life asking only that those with whom she came in contact love one another. Remember her, please, in this way. The family offers its sincere thanks to the caring and compassionate staff of the Northumberland Hills Palliative Care Unit, Doctor Bill Cross and the Reverend Doug Currie of Baltimore United Church. Lois and the family could not have received better care. Visitation will be held at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King Street East, Cobourg on Tuesday, March 4th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.. A celebration of her life will be held at the Baltimore United Church on Wednesday, March 5th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family request donations in Lois name be made to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation or Keystone House Cobourg. It was Lois' wish that she be cremated and her remains buried in the Baltimore Church Cemetery. A private family committal service will be held at a later date.
