CARTER, MARIAN (NEE QUINN) R.N., (TORONTO EAST GENERAL HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING) OCTOBER 8, 1911 TO APRIL 17, 2007 - Peacefully in her 97th year on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at home in Northumberland County. Born October 8th 1911 in Cramahe Township, Northumberland County, she spent her young adult years pioneering with her husband, mining engineer and prospector, Walter (Nick) Carter in the Northern Ontario mining community of Little Long Lac (1934 - 1954). After this adventure, the couple moved to Toronto and eventually returned to Northumberland County. She was a devoted reader of both political and literary works and a stanch supporter of the arts. She read at least two newspapers a day until the afternoon she died and subscribed to The New Yorker magazine for well over half a century. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Walter (Nick) Carter and by five of her seven siblings. Loving mother of Nicholas, Victoria, British Columbia, John, Cobourg, Ontario, and Jane (Urquhart), Stratford, Ontario, she will be sadly missed by her brothers Clifford and Edmund Quinn, daughters-in-law Elizabeth and Donna Carter, son-in-law Tony Urquhart, grandsons Jeffrey and Michael Carter, granddaughters Catherine Carter and Emily Urquhart and by her three great-grandchildren as well as the entire Quinn family. A graveside service will be held at Castleton Cemetery, Castleton, Ontario on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. In memoriam donations may be made to the Northumberland Humane Society.
