Howard Roger Stockford

April 6, 1941 - September 3, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Howard Roger Stockford announce his passing at Northumberland Hills Hospital on Saturday, the 3rd of September 2022 at the age of 81.
Howard and his wife Jeannie shared a wonderful journey together for almost 60 years, handling the challenges life threw at them with dignity and grace.
Howard graduated from the Royal School of Mines, Imperial College, London and emigrated immediately to Canada, where he went on to build a very successful career in the profession that he loved. He was the Executive Vice President of Aur Resources Inc. for many years and later joined the Board of Agnico Eagle Mines. Howard is survived by his wife Jeannie, treasured daughter Sally, granddaughter Becca and his great grandson Ocean, with whom he shared a similar sense of humour, sister Angela and his remaining family in England. Howard is predeceased by his son Roger and his granddaughter Victoria. He was truly a kind man, blessed with a wonderful gift of laughter and described by almost everyone who met him as a gentleman.
As pre-Howard’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mining Matters or The Canadian Institute of Mining, Metalurgy and Petroleum.
There will be an “Au Revoir Howard” gathering in the Windsor Ballroom of the King Edward Hotel in Toronto on Saturday, the 22nd of October from 4-7p.m.
We would like to invite Howard’s friends and acquaintances to join us to a toast of life well lived.

John and Katherine Crichton - October 9, 2022

We knew Howard as a friend, not from a mining connection. He was thoughtful, wise, kind, loving, family oriented, gentle, humorous and generous. We reflect on the many good times we had together. He has left a big hole in our circle of friends. We miss him now and will forever.

Giselle Schween - October 8, 2022

Dearest Jeannie and Sally, Rebecca and Ocean. I was forwarded Howard's obituary yesterday and I had so many emotions. I'm sending you all my most heartfelt sympathy. I found myself thinking back to the good old days with the gang at the Falconbridge office in the '70's. I found out then how close the mining community is and I've since made many friends. Howard was one of my first bosses as I started on a career in that industry. But he was more than a boss, he was a great friend, sweet, funny, caring and kind. You all meant so much to me in those early days. And I've thought of you all often over the years. Howard passing will create a huge void in your life, but my hope is that that void is filled with all the love and memories he shared with you. I send you love and a wish for peace in your hearts. Love Giselle Schween

Barry Simmons - September 12, 2022

My deepest condolences to Jeannie, Sally and family. I know the loss of husband, father and patriarch will be huge and painful. I knew Howard over the years with the Falconbridge group and with companies associated with Aur Resources. For a time, Howard was my immediate superior. He was a wise and knowledgeable supervisor and mentor, always encouraging. For various reasons, we lost close contact in later years, but I always valued his association and acquaintance. I shall continue to value his memory.

Lee Barker - September 12, 2022

Howard will be sadly missed by all members of the Canadian and International Exploration and Mining Community . He always had a positive outlook on business and life and gave back to his profession through his support of many of the technical and professional organizations of our industry. Sincere condolences to his entire family and colleagues.
