Passed away peacefully in his 88th year on Sunday, May 19th, 2019 at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg. Devoted husband to the late Leona for 58 years. Loving Dad to Brian (Debbie), Michele (Robert) and Mickey the cat. Cherished Papa to Sean (Alex), Emma and the late Ashley. Predeceased by his brother Douglas (Janie) and sister Peggy. John was a retired Sergeant who served with the Toronto Police Service for 35 years. The family appreciates the kind care John received at Roseglen Village for Seniors in Port Hope and at the Northumberland Hills Hospital - Thank You.Friends and family will be received at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, Cobourg on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 1 pm with visitation to commence one hour prior. I am saddened to hear of John's passing. We worked together for a number of years at #2 Traffic Division of the Metropolitan Toronto Police. He was always the epitome of an Officer and A Gentleman. RIP John.
Rest easy Sarge. One of the finest gentlemen I ever worked for. A truly caring and dedicated man and the kind of supervisor I tried to emulate. Bless your family and your memory. I’m sure you and the Colonel are up there riding Harley’s around the pearly gates!!

Sincere condolences to the family of Sgt. John Routh. John was one of my very first Sgt's. in 1972 at One District Traffic Unit and was until I left in 1983. I returned to Central Traffic in 1989 as a brand new Sgt. and who was I working with again... Sgt. John Routh !! He was a fine Police Officer, cared for everyone, a true gentleman and was extremely proud to wear the uniform of the Toronto Police Force / Service. Rest in Peace Sergeant !!

As a brand new copper in the mid-70's I worked for John at (then) # 1 Traffic. He was a kind man - sincere and a great supervisor. Whenever I think back to those times, I think fondly of John. I'm sorry he's passed, my condolences to his family and all those he touched.
