I was one of his students in the 70's. I struggled with math terribly but unlike other math teachers I had, I always got the feeling from him that he knew I could get it and I wasn't dumb and that maybe there was something else I was struggling with. I always felt a "goodness" coming from him. I liked him and have always thought of him from time to time. A great teacher and a great human.

I remember Mr. Peters from my latter years in math class Grade 11 or 12 1980-81.He was always a kind, funny and compassionate man and taught well. The thing that is forefront in my memory was him saying at the end of the school year was " Well students, I am glad I have had you this year are you glad you have been had " ????Rest in peace Mr. Peters????

To the Peters family:I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Harold. Of course, since he is a former teacher of mine, I will always think of him as “Mr. Peters”. I feel so fortunate that I was able to have several math classes with Mr. Peters at the East. He made the content interesting and easy to understand – something that not all math teachers are able to do. But more than that, he made it fun. I still think about his clever wordplay, and have incorporated his phrase “jump to contusions” into regular use in my own life. This might seem like a strange story, but here goes. When I was in his class, I had a solar calculator...maybe one of the first ones since it was the 1980s. As Mr. Peters would walk around the class during tests, he would stop at my desk, block the light to my solar panels, pause, grin, then move on. I always found that funny. Amazingly, I still have that calculator, and when I use it, I think of him and smile. Now, using that calculator and remembering his humour will have even more meaning.I am so sorry for the loss of your husband / father / father-in-law / grandfather / brother. Harold was a great teacher and just a great person, too. He will be missed. Of course, my parents are gone now, but he was also a great neighbour to our whole family.I am thinking about you (Karen, Rob, Andrew) and sending you my best wishes at this difficult time.Mary Dillon

My mom Sharon told me the other day. I was sad to hear this. I'd had ups and downs with math in high school. When I finally had Mr. Peters it all came together. Such a great teacher. He taught so well and always gave extra help. And he had this high level sense of humour only myself of 25 students could understand I think. It was so great. Such great learning. Such great listening. A pleasure to have had him influence my education and that important part of my life. Thanks, Mr Peters.

I had Mr. Peters as a Math teacher in grade 13. It took me about a month to catch on to the way he taught and his sense of humour. After that I realized that he was an awesome teacher and I still remember the fun we had in his class after almost 40 years. RIP Mr. Peters
