Catherine Anne Bell

May 8, 1947 - December 22, 2023

Died peacefully at her home in Cobourg. Born in 1947 to Jim and Ruth McGenn of St. Thomas, sister of Janet Wilcox, loving wife of Douglas Bell, mother of Jamie and Andrew, mother-in-law of Tanya Elias and Nana to Jordan and Dylan Bell. Graduate of St. Thomas Collegiate and acquired a Teaching certificate from Teacher’s College London (1967). Taught in St. Thomas (Balaclava PS), Waterloo (Laurentian PS), Toronto (Crestview PS) and Richmond Hill (Top of the Hill nursery school). Two memorable highlights from work: teaching the new open concept Program in Waterloo and teaching Nursery school. Actively involved in St. Matthews United Church Richmond Hill as a Sunday school director and a Youth group leader. Enjoyed book clubs and scrap-booking. Memorable moments included: going to Expo 1967 with her girl-friends, cruising the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the inside passage to Alaska and attending a tea party at Buckingham Palace. Proudest moment was the birth of her sons and grandsons. Most cherished moment, her marriage to her life’s partner Doug. A final word from Cathy: love conquers all.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday May 4th, 2024 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at the Salvation Army Community Church, 59 Ballantine Street Cobourg.

My deepest condolences Doug, Andy and Jamie and family. I am remembering the comic strip Cathy made up of us "Condo Grannies Gone Wild" when we chopped up the artificial flowers in our 3rd floor lobby (to improve the appearance). And finally replaced it with a live plant. I will continue to water and take care of our plant Cathy. Rest in Peace Cathy.

So very sorry to hear of Cathy’s passing. I remember her in high school Doug as being so much fun to be around. Although three years older than I, she, along with her life partner Doug took me under her wing and helped guide me, but it was her warmth and caring demeanour that I remember most. Although the years have passed and we have gone our separate ways I always appreciated her kindness and beautiful smile. Our sincerest condolences. Bris and Mill
