October 10, 1934 - June 19, 2018
Malcolm Telford died on June 19 after a brief illness. He was 83. He was married to Sally, the love of his life through 61 years. He also leaves his two children Hamish and Amanda, of whom he was so proud, his three grandchildren (Phil, Kate, and Ewan), his son-in-law Alex and daughter-in-law Vicki. He is survived by his brother Alastair. Malcolm was born in England and moved to Canada when he was just 22 years old with his even younger bride. He obtained a Bsc and a PhD from McGill, while Sally worked at the university registrar’s office. He was hired by the University of Toronto, where he taught invertebrate zoology for 28 years. While he enjoyed his research, he took special pride in mentoring keen graduate students. In retirement, he puttered with Sally at their beloved farm near Bancroft, dabbled in the antique business, painted, tended his flowers and vegetables, did lots of birding, and published a book of non-fiction stories. He was working on a second book about the strange ways esoteric animals have sex. Malcolm was a man with indefatigable energy, a brilliant mind, and a wonderful imagination. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and students. Condolences received at www.MacCoubrey.com.
