Muriel May Throop (nee Wilce)

December 8, 1938 - February 28, 2018

With courage and strength, in her 80th year.  Muriel was predeceased by her husband Paul Throop.  Cherished mother of Karen (Stephen) Cortesis, Kevin (Jennifer Bevan) and James. Loving grandmother of Samuel, Zoe and Paislee.  Muriel was born in Gloucester, England and was the youngest of 5 children.  Muriel attended the Royal United Hospital in Bath where she trained as a nurse.  Muriel’s adventurous spirit brought her to Canada in 1961 to practice as a nurse.

She stuck a pin on a map and that brought her to Cobourg! A one-year plan turned into a new way of life when she met and later married Paul, in January 1962.

Muriel embraced the Canadian way of life with Paul and enjoyed many outdoor activities, camping, canoeing and even duck hunting. As a devoted mother, she encouraged her children in many sports and hobbies.  Muriel was also active in the community, teaching Sunday school and managing teenage volunteers at the Cobourg Hospital.  Muriel will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and dear friends.  We wish to thank Dr. Essak for many years of care, Dr. Kwok, the staff of Streamway Nursing Villa and of the Legion Village.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 1p.m. – 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. in the MacCoubrey Funeral Home Chapel, Cobourg.  In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to Northumberland Hills Hospital, Trinity United Church or Cobourg Public Library.  Condolences received at
