Candace Grace Carter

March 10, 1962 - October 18, 2017

It is with great sadness that we share the loss of Candace Grace Carter, on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at her home in Claremont. Cancer took her from us far too early.

She was the much beloved daughter of Jack and Carol Carter of Thornhill, mother of Alya Al-Joundi (and boyfriend Nick Rehayim) of Clarement, sister of Christine Gross (and husband Stefan) of Barrie and Janice Nickerson (and husband Mike) of Toronto, aunt of Nicola Wenn, Nathan Gross and Noah Gross, and long-time companion of Arnon Weinberg. Her cats, Khaleesi and Arya mourn her passing. The chickens and ducks who shared her home have also lost a devoted caregiver - not to mention the many flowers and plants and other denizens of her garden.

Candace's home and garden may not have been large - but she made the most of every inch transforming a once ordinary lawn into a wonder world of plants, ponds, and pathways, installing green houses and chicken coops, building decks and porches, and renovating virtually every corner of her of her 100-year-old house (with the enthusiastic aid of her partner-in-projects, her dad). The inside, she decorated with more plants, and watercolour murals and paintings.

Candace was also a gifted artist. She loved to sketch with charcoal, paint with watercolours, and the web sites she designed were uniformly gorgeous. She could no more abide a boring white wall than a boring green lawn.

Candace's talents were not limited to animal husbandry, gardening, interior design, and the visual arts. She was also a engaging story teller, orator, and saleswoman. She was the public face of the website company, and a leading member of the Claremont Garden Club - often giving garden tours to promote her fledgling business, Flowers In the Front Yard. Even while suffering the many side effects of her cancer treatments, Candace managed to uplift the spirits of those around her, recounting the antics of her new kittens and enthusing about her latest projects and plans.

Candace was tough and strong, talented and funny. We will miss her greatly.
