Honor Carr

April 28, 1942 - April 26, 2024

Honor Carr died peacefully at Ed’s House in Cobourg on a beautiful and bright
spring morning (the kind she so loved) on April 26th.

Honor's journey began in the quaint village of Woolsington near Newcastle, UK where she enjoyed an idyllic childhood. In her late twenties, she embarked on an adventure to Canada, where she met Roger, her lifelong companion. Though her plans to explore Mexico were left unfulfilled, she made Canada her new home.

Honor nurtured a lifelong long love for animals- dogs, ponies, horses, and even goats filled her life. She shared this passion with her children, nurturing their understanding of the natural world and fostering both curiosity and respect.

Beyond her love for nature, Honor cherished human connection and was deeply committed to her friends and community. From her involvement in the Red Cross to her contributions to Meals on Wheels, she touched many lives with her warmth, generosity and wit.

Above all, Honor loved her family. She shared fifty-four years of love and companionship with Roger (deceased December 2023) and was a devoted mother to Alexandra and Robin.

For nearly four decades, Honor courageously battled M.S. Her final months were spent at Extendicare in Port Hope, where she received exceptional care. To the staff at Extendicare, who cared for her with compassion and dedication for the last 18 months of her life, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Thank you, all.

With her passing, Honor leaves behind a legacy marked by love, compassion, and an enduring appreciation for the beauty of life. Though she may be gone, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew her. We also extend our gratitude to the staff at Ed's House for providing comfort and support during her final moments.

MESSAGES OF CONDOLENCE / DONATIONS

Ted Quinn - May 13, 2024

I have considered Honor and Roger friends of mine, since we were members of the 'Citizen's Input Group' back in the early 1970's, opposing regional government for Port Hope. Honor was such a fun, caring and compassionate lady and I'm sure she will be greatly missed by her friends and family. You have my deepest sympathy for her loss.

Renee Yule - May 10, 2024

I'm so sorry to hear of Honor's death, as well as Roger's a few months ago. My deepest condolences to Alexandra and Robin.

Tucker (the therapy dog) and I love our visits at Extendicare, and especially loved to see Honor for a visit and a chat. She always had a gentle smile and a kind manner, and her love of animals was evident in her interaction with Tucker. I’m so very sorry for your loss.

Val Taylor - May 8, 2024

Roger and family, my sincerest condolences on the passing of Honor. While we didn’t know each other well, Honor always said hello whenever I saw her out and about.

To Honor’s family, please accept my condolences on the loss of your loved one Honor. We met many years ago at the RBC in Port Hope, I so enjoyed Honor coming in to do her banking each week, her contagious laugh was something I looked forward to. She was definitely one of a kind. I have been retired for sometime but I still think about this wonderful woman from time to time. I feel so lucky to have known her!!! Rest in Peace❤️

My sincere condolences to you Roger, and of course to Alexandra and Robin. I have good memories of Honor and our discussions re education, health care and MS. Having had a sister who lived with MS we could relate somewhat in those conversations. Her sense of humour and sharp wit were two of Honor's many hallmarks. Requiescat in pace.

Selena Forsyth - May 5, 2024

Honor Carr was one of a kind. She was a remarkable woman who, despite matching wits with MS, never stopped doing whatever she could for everyone else. She lived her life to the fullest and we all benefited in one way or another. Honor will know how happy I am for her that she spent her last days at Ed’s House. Am sending huge hugs to Roger and also to Alexandra and Robin. Sadly we never met but I certainly know all about you both. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to know Honor.
